Literature Text

My writing teacher once said:

"Writers are professional liars"

We cross our fingers behind our backs

And lie through our teeth

Our fingers stay crossed

Even after the lie -- the story -- has been told

We lie, but we lie to no one

We send it out into the ether

Our fingers crossed

To hope it finds ears to deceive

We hope -- cross our fingers -- and hope

Those ears will listen

Because the echoes of our lies

Go mostly unheard

So yes, we are "professional liars"

But those fingers crossed behind our backs

Mean we're "professional wishers" as well

A poem about the struggle to be noticed/read as an author. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Always try to leave a comment on things that you like, it really helps the one who made it.

That we are, that we are indeed. I enjoyed reading this too.
